Luggage Storage in Tbilisi: Railway Station, Airport and City Centre

Tbilisi doesn't have many good options, but they do exist: a working left-luggage room at the railway station, a 24-hour luggage office at the airport, automatic lockers on Freedom Square, a couple of private spots in the centre, and aggregator apps that find partner locations. Below is what's where, when it closes and exactly where to go.

Left luggage at Tbilisi railway station

There is a left-luggage room at the station, and it's the most predictable option if you've arrived by train. The one problem: it's almost impossible to find without directions, because the station is really a large shopping centre, and the luggage room isn't marked on the station plan or in Georgian Railway's official materials.

On maps, it's simply called Storage Room, at Station Square. Here's the route: enter the building through the main entrance, take the escalator up to the second floor, and look for the exit to the platforms — specifically platform 1. The exit is to the right of the escalator, with no security checks or turnstiles. Once on the platform, face the tracks and turn left. Walk for about a minute along the building; the luggage room will be on your left — a separate low building with a Storage Room sign. A landmark if you're leaving: trains to Batumi depart from platform 1.

The rate is 20 GEL per locker per day (about €6.70). You pay per locker, not per item, and one locker fits one large suitcase or two medium ones, or a big sports bag plus hand luggage. The lockers are all the same size. A year or so ago the rate was 15 GEL, so prices are rising, and you may see a small difference on the spot.

Sources disagree on the opening hours: the Google listing says 8:00–20:00, visitors in early 2026 reported 7:30–20:00, and one guidebook gives 8:00–22:00. The practical takeaway: assume it may already be closed after 8 pm, and don't plan to collect your bags in the evening if your train or flight is late. If the door is locked, there's a phone number on it you can call.

A member of staff handles everything: they write down your name, asking for ID (your passport is handed straight back), issue a paper receipt and lock the locker. Keep the receipt — that's what you collect your bags with. According to recent reviews, payment is in cash, in lari, so it's worth getting change in advance; there's an ATM on the lower floors of the shopping centre. None of the sources mention needing a train ticket — people use it when they're simply exploring the city.

If your suitcase doesn't fit in a locker, visitors describe leaving it in the room itself, next to the shelves — but that's something to agree with the staff member, not an official service.

Right inside the station building are two metro stations, Sadguris Moedani I and Sadguris Moedani II, so from the luggage room you can be at Freedom Square in ten minutes.

Is there left luggage at Tbilisi Airport?

Yes, and it's open around the clock. This is probably the most useful takeaway of this article: you don't have to take your bags into the city if you have a long layover or a night flight.

According to the airport's official website, the luggage office is in the departures terminal and is available to all passengers 24/7. Note that many older articles and guidebooks say it's in the arrivals hall — that information is out of date; go by the departures terminal.

Rates are per day and depend on size:

• a bag or suitcase no larger than 40×25×65 cm — 20 GEL per day (about €6.70);
• anything larger — 30 GEL per day (about €10).

Part-days are rounded up to a full day: leave your bags for three hours and you'll pay for a day. The maximum storage period is three months, after which the airport may dispose of items at its discretion. Perishables, flammable items and anything prohibited from carriage are not accepted. Watch the size limit: 65 cm is the height of a standard 24-inch suitcase. Anything bigger automatically falls into the 30 GEL rate.

How long to allow for getting to the airport. The airport is 17 km south-east of the centre. A Bolt from the centre takes 20–30 minutes and usually costs 15–25 GEL, up to 30 at night. An official taxi from the rank costs 35–50 GEL. City bus No. 337 runs from Station Square through the centre to the airport in 45–60 minutes and costs 1 GEL with a Metromoney card or about 1.5 GEL with a foreign bank card; buses don't accept cash at all. The bus runs roughly from 7:00 to 23:00, every 15–20 minutes, with no night service.

Important this season: since 23 July 2026, Rustaveli Avenue has been fully closed to traffic between Tamar Chovelidze Street and Freedom Square for reconstruction, which is due to finish by the end of November. Bus No. 337 and other routes are diverted, and journey times may increase. The metro runs as normal, and you can walk along the avenue. If you're heading to the airport from the centre during the day, allow an extra 20–30 minutes.

Where to leave luggage in central Tbilisi

Before you go to any specific address, it's worth understanding the difference between two formats — it determines whether you'll be able to collect your bags at 11 pm.

Left-luggage rooms and automatic lockers. Your bags are in a locked compartment, accessed with a code or by a member of staff. The upside is clear responsibility and a physically locked door. The downside is a fixed locker size: if your suitcase doesn't fit, you've already paid and have nowhere to put your bags.

Aggregators — Radical Storage, Qeepl, LuggageHero, Nannybag and the like — aren't a network of luggage rooms but an app that matches you with a partner: a hostel, café, shop, scooter rental or travel agency. The price is fixed and the same across the network, you pay in the app, but your bags aren't in a locker — they're in a back room under a staff member's eye. This has two consequences worth remembering. First, opening hours are set by the partner, not the service: a location may close earlier than the app says. Second, partners join and leave all the time — reviews of Radical Storage locations in Tbilisi include stories of a kiosk closed at 6 am and an address where there was simply no drop-off point. If you book, leave yourself a time buffer and have a backup option.

Luggage Storage, 11 Pushkin Street (Luggage Storage, 11 Aleksandr Pushkin St)

The most visible private option in the centre: 4.9 stars and more than 150 reviews on Google — the best result of any luggage storage in the city in terms of both the number and freshness of ratings. It's three or four minutes' walk from Freedom Square, near Freedom Square metro, close to Orbeliani Square and the Dry Bridge.

There are no lockers: it's a large basement room with shelves, and the bags are taken in and handed back by the owner, Eduard, who speaks English. There's a suitcase painted on the gate; go into the courtyard and down the stairs. The sign isn't obvious from the street, so look for the symbol on the gate.

The price depends on size: visitors mention around 8 GEL for a small bag and about 15 GEL for a large backpack or suitcase per day. An earlier source gives 7 GEL for any item, so the rate has gone up over the past couple of years — check on the spot. It's open daily from 8:00 to 22:00, longer than the station luggage room.

The main advantage: they accept oversized items — bikes, skis and other large things that won't fit in any locker.

SmartCase, 4 Freedom Square (Smart Case / Left luggage Lockers, 4 Freedom Square)

The only fully automatic lockers in the centre, open 24 hours, accessed with a PIN code. Easy to find: 4 Freedom Square, inside the archway next to the Galleria Tbilisi shopping centre and the Courtyard Marriott hotel. It's a couple of steps from Freedom Square metro and the airport bus stop.

According to the operator's website, the locker size is 49×28×70 cm, and the rates are: 8 hours — 20 GEL, a day — 25 GEL, two days — 40, three days — 45, a week — 65, a month — 170. The maximum time in the locker itself is 10 days; beyond that, the bags are moved to a separate room and you're charged triple the rate for each extra day. Weapons, ammunition, explosives and flammable substances are prohibited.

Now the honest part. This location is rated between 2.1 and 3.0 on Google, and the same complaints come up review after review: the touchscreen doesn't respond, the machine doesn't accept notes or give change, money is charged without the locker opening, and phone support isn't much help. The machine takes cash — 5, 10 and 20 GEL notes and 1 GEL coins — so go with the exact amount in small denominations.

And about size: a depth of 28 cm is less than the thickness of a standard 24-inch suitcase. The lockers really work for a backpack, sports bag or hand luggage, not a big suitcase. If yours is 28 inches or larger, go to Pushkin Street or the station.

Envoy Hostel & Tours, 45 Betlemi Street (Envoy Hostel & Tours, 45 Betlemi St)

A hostel in the heart of Old Tbilisi, at the foot of Narikala, about ten minutes' walk from Avlabari metro and fifteen from Freedom Square. Its luggage storage is open to non-guests too: 5 to 15 GEL per item per day depending on size, and they accept bikes and ski gear. Storage is stated to be available 24 hours.

A caveat: the detailed description of the conditions relies on a source that's two years old, and recent reviews mention renovation work in the building. Before hauling your suitcases across town, call them: +995 32 292 01 11.

Aggregators: what actually works in Tbilisi

Radical Storage has the largest presence in the city. Its Tbilisi page quotes from €3.90 per item per day, while individual location pages show €5 — check the final amount in the app before paying. The stated guarantee is up to €3,000 per item, with no declared size or weight limits. There are locations near Station Square, near Rustaveli metro (18 March 8th Street — the drop-off is inside a scooter rental shop, open roughly 6:00–23:00) and in residential districts.

Qeepl — prices in Tbilisi start at 9.29 GEL per item per day; the exact address is sent after booking, and until then the map only shows an approximate area.

LuggageHero is the only major service with an hourly rate, which is handy if you only need to leave bags for three or four hours. A one-off service fee of about $1.60 per item is added, which includes basic cover of up to $500; from the second day, the rate is from $4.90 per item. LuggageHero partners don't accept cash — you pay by card through the service.

Nannybag quotes €3.50 per item per day with no size or weight limits.

Separately: at the time of writing we couldn't confirm any Bounce locations in Tbilisi — if you plan to rely on it, check the map in the app in advance.

Didube and the bus stations

We have to be honest here: there's no reliable information about luggage storage at the Didube and Ortachala bus stations. One guidebook mentions informal storage rooms at both stations costing a few lari per hour, with the one at Didube next to the Kazbegi marshrutka stand. But these aren't confirmed on maps or in recent reviews, and the bus stations themselves are chaotic places with a constant flow of people.

Practical advice: if you're changing from one marshrutka to another and need to step away for half an hour, ask on the spot — something will probably turn up. What to choose in different situations

You arrive by train in the morning and leave by train in the evening. The Storage Room right on platform 1 — 20 GEL per locker, no need to go anywhere. The only condition: be back by 8 pm. If your train leaves later, collect your bags in advance anyway and wait with them in the waiting area or at the food court upstairs.

You've checked out and want to explore the Old Town. 11 Pushkin Street — three minutes from Freedom Square, open until 10 pm, takes bags of any size, no booking. If you only have a backpack and will definitely be back within eight hours, a SmartCase locker in the Freedom Square archway costs the same and is closer — but go with small cash and no illusions about the machine.

An evening or night flight. The most relaxed option is to take your bags to the airport early and drop them at the 24-hour luggage office in the departures terminal: 20 or 30 GEL, with no dependence on opening hours. That removes the risk of not making it back before a city location closes. If you want to stay in the centre until the last minute, use Pushkin Street or SmartCase, but leave for the airport with plenty of time: Rustaveli is closed and the diversions are unpredictable.

You need to leave bags for several days. Do the maths. A week in SmartCase costs 65 GEL per locker; a week at the airport, 140 GEL per item; a week with an aggregator at €5 a day, about 105 GEL. If you have one or two items that fit in a 49×28×70 locker, the locker wins on price. For a month or more, none of these options work — you need a storage facility with monthly billing, which is another story.

A very large suitcase or oversized items. Lockers are out straight away. That leaves three options: Pushkin Street (they take bikes and skis), Envoy Hostel (same) and the airport luggage office at 30 GEL per item, where the size limit isn't strict — it just costs more.

You arrive before check-in. First, message your hotel or apartment: almost everywhere will hold your bags for free even before check-in, and that's the cheapest option. A hostel you're not staying at will usually take bags too — Envoy does so officially — but Fabrika, contrary to popular advice, only stores luggage for its own guests. If nothing works out, use the station luggage room if you came by train, or Pushkin Street if you're already in the centre.

Is it safe to leave luggage?

Petty theft is rare in Tbilisi, and none of the places described here has a history of lost bags. But a few simple rules save a lot of stress:

• Valuables, documents, cash, laptops and medication stay with you. No luggage storage anywhere in the world is designed for them.
• Take a photo of your suitcase before handing it over, and of the entrance to the storage location: both come in handy if something goes wrong or you simply can't find your way back.
• Keep the paper receipt or the booking in the app. At the station, bags are returned only against the receipt.
• Check the compensation limit. Radical Storage states €3,000 per item; LuggageHero's basic cover is $500, with paid upgrades. The station and airport luggage offices don't publish a limit — ask on the spot.
• Check the closing time in advance and allow an hour's margin. Arriving after a private storage location has closed means your bags stay there until morning, and you go to the airport without them.
• Put a tag on your bag with your name and local phone number.
