Batumi in November: What to Expect

Batumi boulevard in autumn with yellow leaves and the Black Sea

November is when Batumi becomes a different city. The summer crowds disappear, the prices drop, and the coast turns moody and grey. Whether that sounds appealing depends entirely on what you're looking for.

This guide covers what November actually looks like in Batumi — weather, what's open, what's closed, and whether it's worth coming.

Weather in November

November in Batumi is mild by European standards but genuinely rainy. Average temperatures sit between 10°C and 16°C during the day, dropping to 8°C at night. Rain is frequent — Batumi is one of the wettest cities in Georgia year-round, and autumn is no exception.

Expect rain several days per week. Pack a waterproof layer. The rain tends to come in short, heavy bursts rather than all-day drizzle — you can usually plan around it.

The upside: the light on rainy days in the Old Town is extraordinary. Wet cobblestones, empty alleys, steam rising from tea glasses at outdoor cafes.

What's Open and What's Closed

Most restaurants, cafes and supermarkets stay open year-round. The cable car to Mount Feria operates through November. The beach bars and sun lounger rentals close — but the beach itself is free and often beautiful in grey weather.

Some smaller hotels move to winter pricing in November, which can be significantly lower than summer rates. The airport connections remain the same.

Closed or reduced in November: - Beach clubs and outdoor pools - Some seasonal restaurants near the coast - Parasailing and water sports

This is genuinely one of the best times to walk the Old Town. No queues, no crowds at Europe Square, no tour groups blocking the courtyards. The wooden balconies look particularly photogenic when damp.

The Old Town is covered, which helps in rain. Most of the key sights are outdoors but the distances are short — you won't be soaked between them.

What to do: - Walk the full Old Town without rushing - Visit the Synagogue (often quieter on weekdays) - Find a courtyard and spend time in it - Eat somewhere locals eat — the tourists are gone, so the tourist-facing restaurants empty out

Day Trips from Batumi in November

The canyon trips to Martvili and Prometheus are still possible in November, though check conditions before going — some areas can be closed after heavy rain.

**Martvili Canyon:** 90 km from Batumi, ~2 hours by marshrutka or taxi

**Prometheus Cave:** 170 km, full day trip

**Rabati Castle:** 115 km, doable as a half-day

The mountain road to Goderdzi Pass closes in November when snow arrives — typically mid to late November. If you want to see it, go early in the month.

Is November Worth It?

If you want beaches and sun: no. Go in June–September.

If you want the city itself — the Old Town, the food, the atmosphere, the long evenings in wine bars — November works. Prices are lower, the city is quieter, and you'll see a version of Batumi that summer visitors don't get.
